Retro Hollywood Glamour at the V&A

Posted by sally, August 26, 2010

Friday night at the V&A has never looked so tempting. If you’re free tonight (27th August) you’ve got a rare opportunity to go and bask in the golden days of Hollywood…enduring stars, pin-up girls, technicolour film screenings and classic soundtracks. There’s a chance to create your own limited-edition screen-printed scarf featuring designs of iconic 1950s V&A objects, attend a masterclass with renowned illustrator Daisy de Villeneuve, get your hair styled a la Grace Kelly at the Blow Dry Bar or get made-up like Marylin.

Places on the workshops are limited and will go to the early birds.

V&A, 6.30pm – 10pm, 27 August.

Fairground Luck

Posted by sally, August 23, 2010

The inimitable Chrissie Hynde, Prentenders frontwoman and PETA activist, is designing a vegan fashion line called ‘Fairground Luck’. Set to be released this Autumn we hear it will be the animal friendly version of a rock musicians wardrobe…t-shirts, skinny jeans, cowboy boots and faux-leather jackets. More specifically she’s taking inspiration from her friend Emmylou Harris’ style whilst designers Todd Oldham and John Bartlett are giving her a helping hand.

And what of the name? Well it’s a bit of a love story. JP Jones (who grew up on a fairground in Wales) approached Hynde in a bar in London. They flew to Cuba together, fell in love, wrote some songs and now…..starting an eco-conscious fashion label. She loves fairgrounds too. The video is a song of the same name that Hynde told Jones to write after he wished her some ‘fairground luck’ before she played a Pretenders gig.

Dotti for dott

Posted by sally, August 10, 2010

Dott Read….that singer girl from London is a very lovely lass who kindly let us use her quirky, melodious music on our bibico summer sale clip last month. This is her doing what she does best on a rooftop with The Belle Epoque. Dott says her music “reflects the simplicity and joy that life should be about…climbing trees, kissing on the bus all the small things that would normally pass you by”. She wraps up her precious moments in raw lullabies and gifts them to us with bouncy piano and violin accompaniments. If you want to catch this gem live keep an eye out for upcoming gigs on her website.
