Got anything on next weekend? If you can get yourself to Sussex you can join the lucky one’s who’ll be sampling the first tasting of ‘Vintage at Goodwood‘, the latest morsel on the festival platter. Founders of the fashion label Red or Dead, Gerardine and Wayne Hemmingway, are fulfilling their fantasy of a festival where everybody can come dressed up to the nines without fear of ruining their clothes. Apparently the fields are even good for tottering about in heels - they’re self-draining and “unfloodable”. So, no muddy mayhem.
What you will though get is a music and fashion led celebration of creative British cool from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s featuring leading DJs, bands, collectors, purveyors of vintage clothing and vintage vinyl from each decade, as well as contemporary bands and brands inspired by Britain’s rich and creative cultural heritage. Phew.
If you fancy a bit of that, tickets are still available here.
She’s a beautiful and talented woman and you’ve got an opportunity to dress her in your most splendid creation. Florence of Florence + the Machine is inviting fans to design a stage outfit for her November concert at Terminal 5 in New York. Why not get her in some ethical garb? Read more about how to enter your design here. The winning designer will receive travel, 2 nights accommodation at Soho House NY and $500 spending money so they can head to New York and see their creation and Florence onstage (and backstage!). Apparently she’s partial to a bit of vintage, shops at Beyond Retro, gets about in a bit of Hannah Marshall and her stylist Adelene Johnson tends to have her on stage dressed as ‘an ethereal white witch or a sexy dark vamp’…if you’re looking for any pointers. Deadline for the comp is 4 October.
If you happen to be in NYC in the next couple of weeks Scandinavia House is hosting the work of some very talented Swedish designers. The ‘Eco Chic’ exhibition showcases garments that demonstrate once again that there are high-fashion alternatives to environmentally harmful clothing. The exhibition has been travelling since 2008, challenging attitudes towards fashion and consumption. It’s a golden opportunity to cast your eyes over some beautiful pieces created by designers such as Pia Anjou (this is one of her creations above), Camilla Norback, Julian Red and Righteous Fashion.
’til August 21 2010 @ Scandinavia House, The Nordic Centre in America, New York.
