Posted by , May 20, 2011

For those coffee lovers out there I don’t think there is anywhere better to be this weekend than The Bath Coffee Festival which is returning to the Recreation Ground for the second year this weekend (21st and 22nd May).

It’s a free event and there is loads deomnstrations and classes for all the coffee connoisseurs to get stucjk into.  You can check out the timetable of what going on at www.bathcoffeefestival.co.uk.

This year, two new features at the festival are the World of Coffee and the Coffee Academy, where informative hands-on workshops will be held.  Workshops range from latte art demonstrations to how to use and care for your grinder, talks on how you can become a top barista and a fun class on painting with coffee. To register for any of these, visit www.bathcoffeefestival.co.uk before the weekend or sign up on the day.

Other free attractions include the Teddy Bear’s Picnic with marmalade sandwiches (my personal favourite) hosted by Paddington Bear at 1.30pm each day, bouncy castle, tea-cup and saucer ride, salsa and samba workshops and plenty more!

Festival opening times:

Saturday 21st May 2011 – 10am – 5pm

The Strawberry Line

Posted by , May 16, 2011

The West Country is amazing for walks and there are few better than this one.  The Strawberry Line was an affectionate name given to the railway track that ran between Yatton, Cheddar, Wells and Shepton Mallet, and on to Cranmore and beyond to Witham.

Part of the Great Western Railway, the Strawberry Line was completed in 1869. It became an important line for passengers and freight carrying dairy produce, stone, and of course, the famous Cheddar strawberries from which it takes its name. Victorian railway engineers completed a section of track which connected the Cheddar Valley settlements to Bristol. This brought huge benefits to the local economy opening up lucrative London markets to locally grown produce.

Renown for their quality strawberries grown on the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills, an army of strawberry growers and pickers fed the tables of the capital with this wonderful early season fruit for nearly a century. The Cheddar Valley Railway Line line soon became known affectionately as “The Strawberrry Line” but finally closed in 1965.

The route from Yatton to Cheddar is about 10 miles long and surrounded by amazing countryside.  This is well worth the trip and with strawberry picking time coming up there is no better time to do it!!!!

A Really Good Street Party

Posted by , May 12, 2011

Bit late with the photos but I just wanted to show you how our “Really Good Street Party” went. It was a brilliant day and everyone was kitted out for the occasion. We had bunting everywhere, Union Jack decorated cup cakes and even some yummy West Country cider.

Everyone brought along some food, odd numbered houses sweet food and even numbered houses savoury so everything was catered for.

Bibico added to the raffle by offering a £50 voucher. The prize was won by Kate who picked the Eve Shirt Dress a great choice for those long summer days.

We also managed to film rigg up a camera which filmed the whole street party from 8pm the night before to 10am the day after, so soon you get a chance to see the video of a royal street party from start to finish…watch this space.
